Community Stories Terms

Last updated at: 10/16/2026

Community Stories lets you write about your experience with a BRCA mutation and, if you choose, share it publicly on mota.care. These Community Stories Terms (the “Story Terms”) explain how that works, what you allow MOTA to do with your story, and what we promise not to do.

1. What These Story Terms Cover

1.1 Who we are. Community Stories is provided by MOTA Care Corporation (“MOTA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
1.2 What they cover. These Story Terms apply whenever you use Community Stories, including the Story Guide interview, the story editor, the polishing feature, and submitting a story to be published.
1.3 How they fit with our other terms. These Story Terms are “Additional Terms” under our Terms of Service. Our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy also apply when you use Community Stories, and any dispute about Community Stories is resolved as described in the Terms of Service. If these Story Terms conflict with the Terms of Service on a Community Stories matter, these Story Terms control.
1.4 Accepting these Story Terms. You accept these Story Terms when you submit a story for review. Accepting them does not, by itself, let us publish your story. You give that permission separately by checking the box when you submit, and we must approve your story before it is published.
1.5 Your story and your drafts. In these Story Terms, “your story” means everything you submit for publication: the title, the optional short quote, your first name if you choose to include it, and the body of your story. Your “drafts” are anything you write in Community Stories that has not been published, including your answers to the Story Guide.

2. Your Story Belongs to You

2.1 Ownership. As between you and MOTA, you own your story and your drafts, including text you write with help from the Story Guide or the polishing feature. MOTA does not claim ownership of them.
2.2 Your choice. Because your story is yours, you decide whether to publish it and whether it stays published. Section 9 explains how to take your story down.

3. What You Allow MOTA to Do

3.1 To run Community Stories for you. You allow MOTA to store, copy, and process your drafts and your story, and to share them with our service providers, only as needed to provide Community Stories to you. This includes saving your drafts, generating and polishing drafts with the Story Guide, reviewing your submission, and emailing you about it.
3.2 If your story is published. When you give permission to publish and we approve your story, you grant MOTA a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to host, store, copy, display, and distribute your story on mota.care. This license lets us:
  1. show your story to anyone who visits mota.care, whether or not they have a MOTA account;
  2. allow search engines to index your story so it can appear in search results;
  3. allow visitors to link to and share your story, including on social media, and show a link preview with your story’s page title (which includes your first name, if you share it) and the MOTA name when they do; and
  4. format your story for display, such as fitting it to different screen sizes.
Our service providers may host and deliver your story for us. We will not license your story to anyone else.
3.3 When this permission ends. The license in Section 3.2 ends when your story is taken down. After that:
  1. we remove your story from mota.care;
  2. copies in our backup systems are deleted within six months, and we will not display or use them in the meantime; and
  3. we cannot recall copies that others have already saved or shared, and search engines may continue to show your story for a time after we remove it.
The permission in Section 3.1 continues for as long as we keep your drafts, as described in Section 10.

4. Writing With the Story Guide

4.1 Two ways to write. You can write your story yourself in the story editor, or answer the Story Guide’s questions and get a draft to edit. Either way, you can use the polishing feature to tidy your writing. The Story Guide and polishing feature are optional.
4.2 Who powers these features. The Story Guide and polishing feature are powered by Anthropic PBC (“Anthropic”), an artificial intelligence provider that works for MOTA as our service provider.
4.3 What we send to Anthropic. When you use the Story Guide or polishing feature, we send Anthropic:
  1. your answers to the Story Guide’s questions, or the text you ask us to polish;
  2. only if you check the box to use your profile in the interview, the profile details listed next to that box, which may include your mutation type, age, family-planning status, personal and family cancer history, surgical history, menopause status, whether you have seen a genetic counselor, and how long ago you learned your result.
If you don’t use the Story Guide or the polishing feature, nothing you write is sent to Anthropic.
4.4 How your profile details are used. Your profile details only help the Story Guide ask you more relevant questions. Your draft is written only from what you type, and your profile details are never added to your published story. If you don’t check the box, the Story Guide will ask you instead.
4.5 How Anthropic handles your information. Anthropic may use what we send only to provide these features to MOTA. Anthropic does not use it to train its AI models, and it deletes it within 30 days. Our Privacy Policy and Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy explain more.
4.6 Check your draft. AI can make mistakes, including adding, leaving out, or changing details. Read your draft carefully and change anything that isn’t right before you submit it. Nothing is submitted until you choose to submit it, and you are responsible for what you submit.

5. Publishing Your Story

5.1 Your permission comes first. When you submit your story, you will be asked to check a box giving us permission to publish it publicly. We will not publish your story without that permission. You give it each time you submit, including when you submit changes to a published story.
5.2 We review every story. We review each submission before it is published. We may approve it, send it back to you with feedback, or decline to publish it. We do not edit your words. We may adjust formatting, such as spacing and headings, so your story displays properly.
5.3 If we send your story back. Your story returns to your drafts so you can revise and resubmit it. It is kept as a draft as described in Section 10.
5.4 When your story is published. We will email you when your story is live.
5.5 Editing a published story. If you edit a published story, we review your changes the same way before they appear on mota.care.
5.6 Our decision. We decide which stories to publish and are not required to publish any story. We may remove a published story that breaks the rules in Section 7 or the law, and if we do, we will let you know.

6. What Becomes Public

A published story, including your first name if you include it, can be seen by anyone on the internet and found through search engines. Your first name also appears in the story’s page title and in link previews when the story is shared. Anyone can copy or share a published story.

7. Content Rules

7.1 Your story. Your story must be your own words about your own experience, and true to the best of your knowledge.
7.2 What not to include. Do not include:
  1. information that identifies another person, or their health details, unless they have given you permission;
  2. anyone’s contact information, such as a phone number, email address, or home address;
  3. promotion of products, services, or businesses;
  4. false health information presented as fact, or advice telling readers to avoid or delay medical care;
  5. content that is harassing, hateful, threatening, or sexually explicit;
  6. content you do not have the right to share; or
  7. anything unlawful.
Sharing your own choices and opinions about your care is welcome.
7.3 Our other rules. The rules for user content in our Terms of Service also apply to Community Stories.

8. Not Medical Advice

Community Stories are personal experiences and opinions of the members who wrote them. They are not medical advice, MOTA does not verify them, and they do not necessarily reflect MOTA’s views. Every person’s situation is different, so talk with your care team before making decisions about your health. The medical disclaimer in our Terms of Service applies to every story.

9. Taking Your Story Down

9.1 How to ask. To take down a published story, you can delete it from your profile.
9.2 What happens. We remove your story from mota.care and delete it, along with its drafts and Story Guide conversation, unless you ask us to keep it as a draft. Section 3.3 explains what happens to backup copies and to copies others have saved.
9.3 If you delete your account. Deleting your MOTA account also takes down your published stories and deletes your drafts.
9.4 Your privacy rights. This Section does not limit any rights you have under our Privacy Policy or Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

10. Drafts and Story Guide Conversations

10.1 Unfinished drafts. We keep your unfinished drafts, including your Story Guide conversations, so you can come back to them. We delete a draft 12 months after you last worked on it, and we will email you about 30 days before we do.
10.2 Stories sent back to you. A story we send back with feedback is kept as an unfinished draft under Section 10.1.
10.3 Published stories. We keep the drafts and Story Guide conversation behind a published story for as long as the story is published, so you can revise it later.
10.4 Deleting a draft yourself. You can delete a draft at any time from the story editor.

11. Changes and Contact

11.1 Changes. We may update these Story Terms. If we make a material change, we will tell you in advance by email or in Community Stories. A change will not expand what we may do with a story you have already published unless you agree.
11.2 Contact. Questions about Community Stories or these Story Terms can be sent to hello@mota.care.
